Alexis Mac Allister is one of a number of players who could be allowed to leave Liverpool as part of a major overhaul this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old has been a key part of Arne Slot’s squad since his appointment in 2025, but after a dismal season, the boss is already planning significant changes.

Real Madrid are strong admirers of the Argentina international and hope to lure him to the Bernabeu, although sources say Liverpool are reluctant to lose him.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Madrid have received encouragement in their pursuit as contract talks have not progressed.

Mac Allister’s current deal is set to run until 2028, and the Reds had planned talks to extend his stay, but doubts have crept in ahead of a busy window for Liverpool.

Why would Liverpool sell Alexis Mac Allister?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last summer that Real Madrid were interested in signing Mac Allister, having been long-term admirers.

The player’s dad has also spoken out in recent months and confessed they would not rule out a move to Madrid, leading to increased speculation about his future.

Liverpool had initially planned to hold contract talks to deter any interest, but with nothing on the table as things stand, they are now open to his departure.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I’m sure there’s a few players who will be moving on from Liverpool this summer.

“Alexis McAllister, there’s been suggestions that he could move on as well, his future is not certain.

“There’s been no contract talks held with him over a new deal, that hasn’t progressed at all, and there is ongoing talk of interest from Real Madrid.

“There’s uncertainty about a few players in that Liverpool squad, not just him, and it looks like it could be another busy summer for them.”

Could Real Madrid step up their chase for Mac Allister?

Should Liverpool opt to let Mac Allister leave come the end of the season, Real Madrid are the strong favourites to his signature, as they plan for a busy summer.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Real Madrid are tracking Mac Allister and feel he would be a top option to strengthen their midfield.

Los Blancos, much like Liverpool, are planning a major reshuffle of their squad after what has been a disappointing season both domestically and in Europe.

They are believed to have big money to spend and they are willing to splash the cash, which would allow Liverpool to demand a significant fee for Mac Allister.

As part of their plans to renovate their midfield, the Argentina international has been identified as a key target, and his potenitaly availability will place them on alert.
