Allardyce reveals incentive for Everton squad ahead of festive period

Sam Allardyce has cancelled Everton’s Christmas party, promising they can socialise if in a better league position in January.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, the Toffees boss stated that he had cancelled the party due to their early season form.

“I told the players I will pay them back when they come out of Christmas and into January in a better position,” said Allardyce.

“We will socialise, and they can go and socialise at the right time.”

Everton were in a relegation battle ahead of Allardyce’s arrival after only two league wins in their last eight outings.

Since Allardyce’s arrival the team have yet to suffer defeat, drawing with Liverpool and beating both Apollon Limassol and Huddersfield Town.

The four points earned in the league have moved them up to 10th in the Premier League, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Everton are next in action against Newcastle United on Wednesday night at St James’ Park.

They have won their last two league meetings with the Magpies, who are currently on a seven game winless run, but could slip into the bottom half of the table if they fail to win and Southampton beat Leicester.
