Three axed in Allardyce 4-4-1-1: This Everton XI will destroy Newcastle

Published on

Sam Allardyce could shred any suggestion that he plays boring football by using his players to the full against Newcastle United on Wednesday

The Everton boss usually sets his team up in a 4-4-2 formation, but Allardyce must think about changing this for a game against a club that are really struggling to stop their slump in the Premier League.

Newcastle United haven't won any of their last seven games, conceding 17 goals in the process.

The Magpies have dropped to 16th in the table, two points off the relegation zone.

Everton could heap misery on Rafa Benitez side by exposing Newcastle United's weak defence, and sending them into the bottom three.

The Toffees played a defensive style of football when they earned a 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday, but have shown they're capable of scoring goals.

Everton put four past West Ham in David Unsworth's last game in charge, with Wayne Rooney grabbing a hat-trick.

The Toffees go into Wednesday's game having not suffered a league defeat under Allardyce.

Goalkeeper and defenders

Jordan Pickford (Goalkeeper) - Pickford should be one of the first names on the team sheet after impressing throughout Everton's disappointing season.

Jonjoe Kenny (Left-back) - The first-choice right-back should be played at left-back once again with Leighton Baines unable to play. The defender struggled in this position against Lyon but with Newcastle United struggling for goals, he should have a better chance of impressing.

Ashley Williams (Centre-back) - The defender has transformed under Allardyce back into the player he was last season, and is a reassuring presence at the back.

Phil Jagielka - The defender should be fit enough to start against Newcastle United after making an appearance as a substitute against Liverpool, the defender brings experience and leadership to the team in case things go wrong. Cuco Martina misses out.

Mason Holgate (Right-back) - The young defender did well partnering Williams in defence against Liverpool, and deserves to play against Newcastle United.

Midfielders

Ademola Lookman (Left-midfield) - The winger stole the show in Everton's last Europa League outing and with a weak defence to expose against the Magpies, he deserves to start on Wednesday. The pacey winger could tear Newcastle United apart and grab his first league goal of the season.

Wayne Rooney (Centre-midfield) - It was Rooney's perfect pass that led to Dominic Calvert-Lewin winning a penalty, and the captain deserves to stay in the team and create opportunities for his teammates on Wednesday.

Idrissa Gueye (Centre-midfield) -The unsung hero of the Toffees team this season, the midfielder will win the battle in the middle of park for his side, and stop any danger before it develops.

Aaron Lennon (Right-midfield)- The midfielder got to play the second-half against Liverpool and put in a solid performance. Lennon is an attack-minded player who will benefit the team when going forward, but his experienced to help cover a three man defence will also be key. Tom Davies was poor and should be axed.

Forwards

Gylfi Sigurdsson (Attacking-midfield)- The midfielder will love the prospect of playing a struggling Newcastle United, and deserves to be played in his proper position. With Rooney feeding him the ball, the midfielder could easily be a game changer on Wednesday.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Striker) -The young striker's workrate is proving to be key as he holds up the ball and take his limited chances. However, against the Magpies he'll probably find himself with more space and he should get the opportunity to play against an opposition that's weak at the back. Omar Niasse will have to settle for a spot on the bench.
