Everton have landed a “megastar” in James Rodriguez who is indisputably “world class”.
That is according to former Goodison Park striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs about his excitement at watching the playmaker in action.
James has lit up the Premier League since Carlo Ancelotti lured him on a free transfer after his Real Madrid contract had expired.
The attacking midfielder has made seven appearances for Everton, all of which he has started, and scored three goals as well as supplied four assists.
“James Rodriguez is a World Cup Golden Boot winner,” Campbell told Football Insider. “How many Premier League teams can boast that? There are not many!
“He has come in from Real Madrid with a wand of a left foot and he can pick a pass. Calvert-Lewin must have been licking his lips when they signed him. I was licking my lips and I do not even play there anymore.
“James was not a gamble for Ancelotti. Some of the other Premier League clubs were probably questioning if he had played enough games over the past few seasons at Real Madrid and Bayern.
“He has sat on the bench so a lot of teams would not have wanted to take that chance.
“But, Ancelotti knows the player from their time together, knows his quality and knows what he can bring to Everton.
“To get a world-class star like that is amazing for Everton. He is a megastar, a top, top footballer with a top, top talent.”
