Leeds United are set to announce goalkeeper Elia Caprile as their first January signing after he passed a medical at the club, Football Insider can reveal.
The Chievo shot-stopper, 18, is set to join permanently after being identified as a rising star capable of breaking into the United first team.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider the paperwork on the Caprile transfer was finalised yesterday and he is set to be formally registered as a Whites player today.
Caprile was in the stands at Elland Road on Saturday as Marcelo Bielsa’s side slumped to a shock 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
He has been signed after demonstrating immense potential in Italy, where he has been capped by his country at Under-18 level.
Caprile, who stands at 6ft 3in, will provide competition for fellow teenage keeper Ilan Meslier, who is set to replace Kiko Casilla in goal if he is hit with an FA racism ban.
Goalkeeper duo Kamil Miazek and Will Huffer are also on Leeds’ books although their contracts at the club are due to expire at the end of the season.
Caprile is set to be one of two players signed by Leeds this week as they step up plans to reinforce their squad.
United are also in the closing stages of signing winger Ian Poveda from Manchester City on a permanent deal as a replacement for Jack Clarke, who was recalled by Tottenham from his loan at the start of the widow.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that attacking star will undergo Elland Road medical and join the club after agreeing personal terms.
