Anthony Elanga return to Nottingham Forest gains pace as social media hint is shared
Nottingham Forest have been the subject of rumours linking Anthony Elanga with a return from Newcastle United this summer.
The Magpies signed the winger in a deal worth around £55million last summer, in a move that has, so far, proved to be a costly mistake.
Elanga has scored just three goals in 49 appearances for Newcastle this season, with two of them coming in a 7-2 defeat at Barcelona.
The 24-year-old had enjoyed a brilliant season at Nottingham Forest, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists in the Premier League.
It was enough to convince Newcastle transfer chiefs to spend such an astronomical amount on him, and they will hope it also convinces the Tricky Trees to attempt to strike a reunion.

Elanga has been slammed for Newcastle this season, with the winger so often allowing games to pass him by.
The 24-year-old arrived with huge excitement surrounding him last summer, but the move has simply not worked out.
| Anthony Elanga | Stats – Premier League 2025-26 (per 90) |
| Expected goals (xG) | 0.11 |
| Shots | 1.17 |
| Expected assists (xA) | 0.12 |
| Chances created | 1.03 |
| Successful dribbles | 0.89 |
| Dispossessed | 1.23 |
| Duels won | 4.46 |
Incredibly, he has just one assist and no goals in 32 Premier League games this season, exemplifying just how disappointing the Sweden international has been.
Elanga is still young and could well be capable of turning his Newcastle career around, but decision-makers would undoubtedly accept anything close to their money back this summer.
Rumours have begun swirling on social media that Nottingham Forest could be ready to bring him back in the coming weeks, and they appear to have been set off by Ola Aina’s comment.
The defender posted a TikTok video and received a comment that asked if he “can get Elanga back”, to which he replied: “Say less boss”.

Whether anything will come of his comments remains to be seen, but a buzz has been triggered among both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest fans.
Elanga exit complicated by Eddie Howe backing
Eddie Howe can expect to take a significant part of the blame for the way Elanga has failed to settle in at Newcastle, in the same way several other players have struggled.
The Englishman has retained his faith in the winger’s potential, however, and any sale will presumably go against his wishes.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: “He’s come to us, and I think he’s had some really good games for us. Obviously, there have been some games in there where he’s found it a little bit more difficult, as every player would. I still believe the best is very much yet to come for Ant here.”
“I think he’s got some outstanding qualities that we really value, and we really want in the team. But there’d be an element of frustration, I am sure, for him that he hasn’t shown his consistent best throughout the season.
“But players take different times to settle, different times to get a full understanding of what we ask them to do.”
