Anthony Gordon: Bayern Munich the ‘preferred destination’ for Newcastle United star
Anthony Gordon has his sights set on a move to Bayern Munich this summer despite Premier League clubs looking to lure him away from Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old is increasingly likely to leave St James’ Park at the end of the season for the right price, with the Magpies unlikely to stand in his way.
A number of clubs are believed to be keeping tabs on him, including the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, but the English duo could now be set to miss out.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Gordon is keen to join Bayern Munich and start a new challenge away from English football.
That will likely come as a boost for his own career, while he would link up with England teammate Harry Kane, and his big-money exit would be a boost to Newcastle’s transfer plans.

Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool remain interested in signing Gordon and could make a move when the summer window opens.
Despite that, the Reds have since distanced themselves from the race, and Chelsea are believed to be the leading English club should he remain in the Premier League.

However, the opportunity to play for Bayern Munich will prove difficult to turn down, and Gordon now has his eyes set on linking up with Vincent Kompany’s side.
“Bayern Munich would be a very good destination for Gordon,” Brown told Football Insider.
“Out of all of the clubs interested, like Liverpool and Chelsea, his preferred destination would be Bayern Munich, it seems that’s the one he wants.
“He would do well in German football, and it would allow him to take that step away from the pressure and focus on him in the Premier League.
“The pace of the game is slower as well, which might suit him and allow him to find a bit of consistency.
“His performances for Newcastle and England have been up and down, so going over to Germany is a real possibility for him.
“He’ll already know players in the squad, Harry Kane for example with England, so that won’t be a problem for him adapting to the change.”
How do Newcastle feel about letting Gordon leave?
Despite Gordon being keen to make the move to Bayern Munich, any deal will have to be approved by Newcastle, who remain in control over his future.
The England international’s current contract is set to run until 2030, having put pen to paper on an extension in 2024, but the Magpies are now prepared to let him go.

Brown told Football Insider last month that Gordon is increasingly likely to leave Newcastle, with the club prepared to accept “big offers” for his signature.
A fee of around £75million is expected to be enough to prise him away, with all parties keen to move on at the end of what has been a frustrating season.
That would allow Newcastle funds to properly invest in their squad amid concerns they may have to sell before they can spend big this summer.
