Anthony Gordon has been tipped by the bookies to go to Bayern Munich this summer after official contact was reportedly made with Newcastle United.

The German champions are said to have opened talks with the Premier League club ahead of a potential move this summer.

Gordon is the subject of interest from several different sources, with Arsenal and Liverpool also expected to throw their hats in the ring.

The Magpies will be keen to see the 25-year-old move abroad, but he will undoubtedly be sold to the highest bidder.

It is likely in the interest of Newcastle transfer chiefs to wait until after the World Cup, with Gordon set to travel with England.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider this week that Gordon could push for a move away from Newcastle this summer, forcing the fee down.

But the Magpies will be determined to extract everything they can out of the 25-year-old’s transfer, in an attempt to avoid having to make any more key sales.

The winger is under contract at St James’ Park until 2030, and has enjoyed a good season individually, even if Newcastle’s has been torrid.

Gordon has scored 17 goals across all competitions, including 10 in the Champions League as Eddie Howe’s side got to the last 16 stage.

And Newcastle will hope that he enjoys a strong World Cup, with the England international boasting a fairly strong chance of starting on the left.

The 25-year-old could be the subject of several offers upon his return, with one major bookmaker tipping Bayern as the 5/4 favourites to sign him.

Liverpool (7/1) and Arsenal (8/1) are the Premier League representatives in the race to sign Gordon, but they face an uphill battle to beat Bayern to the signing.

Eddie Howe’s latest on Gordon

Gordon has been missing from the Newcastle team for the past few games, with many speculating that an Alexander Isak-type push to leave was incoming.

But the winger does appear to be genuinely injured, and should make his return when Nottingham Forest host the Magpies at the City Ground on Sunday.

Speaking about Gordon’s future before the game, Howe said: “That is not something I’m involved in. It is difficult for me to comment on individual players and timescales. It is an area that is not my forte.

“All I am looking to do is try to finish this season with this squad in a strong way. There is no point looking too far into the future. The summer transfer window is difficult to predict on any level. We have three big games to play.”
