Archer backed to sign Aston Villa deal 'right away' after source's January update - Hutton

Alan Hutton has backed Cameron Archer to sign a new Aston Villa contract “right away” with talks underway.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Holte End favourite insisted the 20-year-old has shown there is a clear pathway to regular first-team football this season.

As revealed by Football Insider (15th September), Archer is in discussions over a new deal at Villa Park.

A Villa source has updated to reveal the club are working on giving the youngster a major pay hike to convince him to sign ahead of January.

Archer’s current terms expire next summer and there is growing interest both domestically and overseas in his talents.

Hutton suggested everything is in place for the young striker to continue developing at Villa Park.

As such, he suggested Archer should put pen to paper as soon as possible.

Asked if a clear path to first-team would convince Archer to sign, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Oh exactly. You sign right away.

“As soon as they offer it, you sign it because you’ve shown your hard work and Dean Smith’s shown faith in him to get him into the team.

“There’s a pathway, we’ve seen it with (Jacob) Ramsey, (Carney) Chukwuemeka, Archer, (Jaden) Philogene-Bidace.

“All these guys are from the youth team coming through and they’ve been given opportunities. He’s learning, he’s learning on the job in the first team.

“He’s been given that opportunity. For me, if I was a youngster and I’m him, you sign it and you continue your development where you are.”
