Arnautovic aims dig at Stoke after completing West Ham transfer

By Danny Wright

New West Ham recruit Marko Arnautovic has done nothing to get himself back in the good books of Stoke supporters by claiming that he is now at a bigger, more ambitious club.

The Telegraph reported that the 28-year-old had handed in a transfer request at the Bet365 Stadium ahead of his record-breaking move to the Hammers.

It was understood that Stoke rebuffed a number of bids before Arnautovic was signed in a deal which could rise as high as £25million in the future.

The 62-times Austria international has now seemingly hit back at Stoke following chairman Peter Coates’ comments about the player’s loyalty.

Arnautovic has now fired a dig back at the Staffordshire outfit, by belittling them in comparison to his new employers in east London.

“To the fans I was let’s say the hero and now I am zero. But that’s football. The one thing I can say is, I am happy to be here and happy to play for West Ham,” Arnautovic told Sky Sports News, as quoted on their live transfer blog on Thursday [07:25am].

“Of course it was tough for me because the fans over the years were very supportive of me, but I came to a point where I wanted to see something different.

“I wanted to join West Ham because, for me, it’s a bigger club and more ambitious. We can see with the signings that we’ve made and the players that are already at the club.”

Arnautovic made 145 appearances across all competitions during his four-year long spell with Stoke, scoring 26 goals in the process.

He has earned a reputation in the past for causing trouble, with his former manager at Inter Milan Jose Mourinho saying that he has “the attitude of a child”.

During his spell at Werder Bremen in Germany, Arnautovic was also suspended by the club after he was caught speeding.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have joined two of their London rivals in pursuit of this £26.7million-rated international midfielder.
