Arsenal back in for Germany sensation (and it's not Mustafi) - report

By Joe Nelson

Arsenal have reignited their interest in Germany star Julian Draxler, according to a report.

The Wolfsburg attacking midfielder revealed last month that he wants to quit the Bundesliga club this summer.

This prompted widespread reports that he was keen to join long-term suitors Arsenal in a mega-money deal.

Football website Transfer Market Web claim have now reignited their interest in the 22-year-old playmaker with a stunning £43million offer.

Wenger has been searching for a striker throughout the summer, with some of the best number nines in Europe being linked with the north London outfit.

A move for in-demand Draxler would appease supporters frustrated at the failure of the cash-rich Gunners to sign a proven goalscorer.

Despite his age, Draxler already has a World Cup Winners medal to his name and he was also named in the Bundesliga ‘Team of the Season’ for the 2013/14 campaign.

With the incomings of Mario Gomez and Simone Zaza, Wolfsburg will be heavily stocked in attack and are considering their options, after spending £31m on Draxler last summer, in a move from Schalke.

Draxler can operate anywhere behind the striker, but was also used in the number nine role for parts of Euro 2016 for German coach Jochim Low.

The German has two international goals in 24 caps and has 23 goals and 24 assists in his Bundesliga career so far.

Wenger has also been in the market for another Germany international, with extensive talks held with Valencia over a£20million deal for defender Shkodran Mustafi.

In other Arsenal transfer news, the Gunners have been hit by a bombshell as this key star has expressed his desire to leave.
