Arsenal backed by expert to beat Man United to Lisandro Martinez - 'the door has been opened'

Kevin Campbell is confident Arsenal can get a deal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez over the line this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said “the door has been opened” for Mikel Arteta’s side to complete a deal for the 24-year-old.

According to the Guardian‘s Sam Dean (29 June), Arsenal are moving quickly to beat Manchester United to the signing of Martinez.

The London club have identified the versatile Argentina international as their top defensive target this summer.

Arsenal’s latest offer is said to be worth around £35million with another £5million in add-ons.

Martinez has three years remaining on his contract at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “It sounds like the door has been opened.

“There is a seat at the table. They are open to discussing it.

“If Ajax weren’t interested in selling they would have rejected this bid out of hand.

“I don’t believe personal terms will be an issue. It is just a matter of the clubs thrashing it out.

“It is nice to see Arsenal looking to open these doors. I like that Arsenal are acting early and are trying to get these deals done.”

Martinez contributed one goal and four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions last season.

He has been capped by Argentina six times since his debut in 2019.
