Martinelli tipped to get extended run in Arsenal starting XI as Arteta plan revealed by pundit

Gabriel Martinelli will get an extended run in the Arsenal starting XI very soon after building up his strength in training.

That is according to ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Martinelli was an unused substitute for the sixth match in succession for the 1-1 draw against Burnley on Saturday.

Martinelli was one of Arteta’s go-to forward options last season and finished the campaign as the club’s third top-scorer behind Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But the 19-year-old forward has started just three times in the league this season having been absent until mid-December with a knee injury.

Campbell claimed that Arteta is doing the right thing by waiting for the opportune moment to reintroduce Martinelli and that fans will see him in the starting XI soon.

“Martinelli must be chomping at the bit, he will want some minutes,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“It has been a long season and he has had a big injury. Every time he comes in for a few games there seems to be an issue.

“Arteta is taking his time with him, training him and building up his strength. He has a big part to play between now and the end of the season.

“There is still a lot of games to be played. He will get his starts very soon.”

Martinelli signed for the Gunners in July 2019 from third-tier Brazilian side Ituano.

The forward has gone on to feature 34 times in total for Arsenal, scoring 10 goals and chipping in with five assists.

In other news, Arsenal have been tipped to sell one of their on-loan players despite his amazing stats.
