Arsenal have seen contract talks with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez stall, according to a report.
The Daily Star have made the strong claim that the two stars will not sign new deals as they hold out for similarly lucrative packages to the £290,000-a-week paid to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.
The report details that the fee is more than double their current wages and the feeling around the Gunners camp is that they could both leave in the summer.
Ozil and Sanchez both have 18 months remaining on their current contracts and are yet to pledge their long-term futures to the club.
The Gunners midfielder Ozil has been influential since he completed a £42.4million deal from Real Madrid in 2013.
The 28-year-old is continuing to have a big impact in the side the season, scoring nine goals and supplying seven assists in 23 appearances.
Arsenal have also enjoyed great success with attacker Sanchez this campaign and his stats are even more impressive than team-mate Ozil.
The 28-year-old has made 26 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 15 goals and supplying 13 assists.
Football Insider verdict:
Arsenal should shatter their wage structure to secure the futures of their two most important players. Ozil and Sanchez are the two most creative players at the Emirates and they would lack real quality without them. The north London club want to compete for the Premier League title every season and it would be impossible to do without their star players. Ozil is still one of the best number 10s in world football and Arsenal would find it extremely hard to replace his creativity. Sanchez has thrived this season in a central attacking position and has been the club’s most consistent performer in recent months. Arsenal would be sending an extremely negative message if both players left the club in the summer transfer window.
In other Arsenal transfer news, the club’s midfielder is close to joining a Bundesliga side.
