Euro giants eye summer swoop for Arsenal goal machine – report

By Danny Wright

Arsenal could find themselves battling to keep Alexis Sanchez this summer as Paris St. Germain look to swoop for a world-class striker, according to a report.

Goal understands that PSG are looking for a strike partner for Edinson Cavani and Arsenal’s goal machine could be the man they choose.

Sanchez’s current contract with Arsenal is due to expire at the end of next season, although he remains in talks with the Gunners over a new deal.

The 28-year-old has contributed to more goals than any other player in the Premier League this season with 15 goals and eight assists.

Unai Emery added Julian Draxler and Goncalo Guedes to his squad in January but he and sporting director Patrick Kluivert have plans to build on what is already a star-studded, and well-paid, squad.

PSG are currently second in Ligue 1, three points behind leaders Monaco.

Emery would be looking to bring in Sanchez to cure a lack of firepower which looks to be the problem with his side this season. Monaco have a staggering 68 goals in 23 matches, which makes PSG’s 48 look meagre.

Sanchez joined Arsenal from Barcelona for a fee of £36million in 2014. He has since gone on to score 44 goals and get 22 assists in 89 Premier League games for the Arsene Wenger’s side.

The report also says that PSG are similarly interested in Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Football Insider Verdict

You can take away Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud or Hector Bellerin, but one player Arsenal simply cannot do without is Sanchez. PSG are going to have to come up with a huge offer to make Wenger even consider selling him, especially when criticism from the fans is as rife as ever.

Arsenal have seemed to get a bit closer to the title in the past two seasons and losing a player who is arguably the best in the league could be disastrous for them. Sanchez’s contract is still being sorted out by the club and they will want to have this matter closed as soon as possible to help arrest their current mid-season slump.
