Arsenal idol 'amazed' by what he's heard about Patino

Kevin Campbell is ‘amazed’ by talk of Arsenal youngster Charlie Patino attracting interest from Barcelona.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker said the 17-year-old is “immensely talented” but must be given time to develop at his own pace.

Patino has been impressing the first-team squad with his performances in training this season.

The playmaker is yet to make his debut for Arsenal but has excelled in the club’s Under-23s this season for whom he scored a sublime goal against Man United for last week.

According to Barcelona journalist Piotr Guzinski (September 13th), the La Liga giants are keeping “close tabs” on the midfield talent.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Patino, Campbell said: “We have seen it so many times.

“Charlie Patino has not kicked a ball in the first team yet. He is youngster with talent but there is loads of them. He’s got big potential but we have seen plenty of those not make it.

“I don’t want to put any extra pressure on a young man. When he gets his chance we will see if he can cut it.

“It’s amazing that there is talk of Barcelona when he hasn’t even kicked a ball for Arsenal yet. Let’s cool the jets a little bit and take out time with him. He needs space to develop.

“He is definitely not the finished article although he is immensely talented.”
