Arsenal idol expects Youri Tielemans twist after journalist's transfer update

Kevin Campbell is adamant Arsenal will revisit a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said Mikel Arteta “needs more” midfielders before the season starts.

On Tuesday (21 June), Arsenal announced the signing of Fabio Vieira from FC Porto on a long-term contract.

Arteta and Edu have brought the 22-year-old to the Emirates to bolster their midfield ahead of a season that will include Europa League football.

According to Goal‘s Charles Watts (20 June), the Gunners have cooled their interest in Youri Tielemans though.

The Belgium international has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

When asked by Football Insider if Arteta had enough midfield options after Vieira’s arrival, Campbell said: “We need more.

“Arsenal need more. We have seen what a few injuries can do to Arsenal’s midfield. We’ve got European football to think about this season as well. We need as many good players as we can.

“I think the Tielemans move is still a possibility. I just think that deal can’t be done right now.

“Leicester’s timeline is different to Arsenal’s. I think they will wait to try and get the best dollar possible. I understand that.

“Everyone knows the player wants to move on. Hopefully he joins us.

“Leicester are playing the game which is fair enough.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Arsenal could sign a “marquee” ally for Eddie Nketiah after journalist’s update.
