Arsenal idol hails William Saliba after 'brilliant' footage emerges pre-Crystal Palace - 'I love that'

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Arsenal defender William Saliba ahead of Friday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker highlighted the 21-year-old’s “brilliant passing” and “calmness” on the ball.

Saliba impressed in Arsenal’s final game of pre-season – a resounding 6-0 win over Sevilla at the Emirates.

As shown by club media (30 July), the centre-half demonstrated his ability on the ball during the win.

The France international is expected to start alongside Gabriel Magalhaes at Selhurst Park on Friday.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Saliba ahead of the new Premier League season, Campbell said: “I have been very impressed by the young man, I have to say.

“He is young, big, strong, quick, aggressive when he needs to be and calm on the ball. He is a brilliant passer of the ball.

“What I like is that he doesn’t take chances. If it has to go out it goes out. I love that about his game.

“It is as if he has played alongside Gabriel and Ben White for years. That is the sign of a good player, when he can just come in and fit in effortlessly.

“I expect Mikel Arteta to go with him on Friday which is the right thing to do.

“A lot of people are making a comparison, White or Saliba? But I do not think that is the case. If Arsenal win games with Ben White at right-back, Arteta won’t change it. This could be the new back four.

“Saliba gives Arsenal a lot of options.”
