Arsenal idol issues emphatic Fabio Vieira verdict after 'ugly' quotes emerge

Kevin Campbell is over the moon Arsenal overcame “a real test” at Brentford in the absence of Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker heaped praise on deputies Kieran Tierney and Fabio Vieira for their performances in the 3-0 win.

Odegaard and Zinchenko were ruled out of the trip to the Brentford Community Stadium because of injury.

Vieira and Tierney replaced the duo, with the former scoring Arsenal’s third goal.

As quoted by Football.London (18 September), Mikel Arteta was “really impressed” with how Vieira dealt with the “ugly part of the game” on Sunday.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Arsenal’s display in the absence of Odegaard and Zinchenko, Campbell said: “This is the key question this season, how deep is our squad?

“We missed out on Douglas Luiz on deadline day. People questioned whether there was enough cover.

“The Brentford game was a real test. It was always going to be a best.

“Kieran Tierney had his best game of the season. I thought he did really well. His deputised in that midfield slot where Zinchenko normally goes. He kept it nice and simple which was good.

“Odegaard gives us that creative edge. He is a schemer and a quality player on the ball. Vieira had a really good game.

“To cap it off with that goal… Arsenal fans complain that Odegaard does not shoot enough. Vieira is somebody who is willing to take a pop. The goal was the icing on the cake. He performed really well.”
