Arsenal are close to signing Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan for £25.1million this summer, according to reports.
CNN Turk claim that the Spanish club have accepted a bid rising to €30million (£25m) from the north London side as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the summer transfer window.
CNN Turk cites the Catalan press as their source for the report that Barcelona are willing to accept Arsenal’s offer, while other outlets, including those from Spain such as leading newspaper Sport, cite CNN Turk.
It is said that Turan, who has struggled to hold down a starting role at the Nou Camp this season, will be allowed to leave in the summer at the same time as departing manager Luis Enrique.
He has made just 13 appearances in the league for Barcelona this season and has not appeared for the club since early March due to injury.
Arsenal were reportedly interested in signing the 88-times-capped Turkish international back in 2014, before he moved from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona.
However, it seems that Arsene Wenger could now finally get his man, as he looks to improve on what has been a disappointing season for the Gunners.
Football Insider verdict:
Arsene Wenger has a reputation for sourcing the brightest young talents across Europe, with the aim of moulding them to his liking, so the proposed signing of 30-year-old Turan is a peculiar one. Having spent much of his professional career in Spain, we would have to wait and see how he adapted to the rigour of English football. It is also difficult to see where the midfielder would slot into an Arsenal side containing Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey. Turan would be moving in search of first team football but would any of those Arsenal men be willing to accept a role as a squad player? It is highly unlikely. However, the Turkish international is without doubt a talented footballer, and would be a welcome sight in the Premier League.
In other Arsenal news, the club are to go head to head with rivals Tottenham for a European midfield maestro.
