Arsenal star makes surprise comments over Tottenham ahead of derby
By Russell Edge
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has said that Tottenham have become a “great side” but refused to admit they had become the best side in north London.
Spurs are set to visit Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on the 18th of November for the first north London derby of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the running for the title in third, while Arsene Wenger’s men sit four points behind in sixth.
The last meeting between these two sides ended 2-0 to the Lilywhites at White Hart Lane, while the last clash with Arsenal at home finished 1-1, with a Harry Kane strike cancelling out a Kevin Wimmer own goal.
However, despite Tottenham being unbeaten in four games in the derby matches, and having finished in second place last season, 11 points ahead of The Gunners who finished sixth, Wilshere was unwilling to admit they were the better team, although surprisingly admitted they had become a “great” team.
He told Sky Sports on their website: “They’ve come a long way in the last few years.

“They finished above us last year, and we want to finish above them this year.
“But it’s not all about that, we don’t just look at them. We want to finish as high as we can.
“We’ll see (who the better side is). You’re only as good as your last game.
“We lost our last game and we need to bounce back. It’s a massive game, and we’re looking to get three points. We’ll be ready for it.”
Arsenal come into the match off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, while Spurs will travel to the Emirates buoyed by a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, which was secured thanks to a Heung-min Son strike.
