Arsenal tipped to offer Luiz new deal after 'superb' stats revealed - Campbell

Kevin Campbell has tipped Arsenal to offer David Luiz a new contract after striking a “formidable” partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker heaped praise on the 33-year-old who was “superb” in the North London derby.

Luiz has established himself as the first choice centre-half at the Emirates in 2021 – he has started nine of the previous 11 Premier League fixtures.

In Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham he completed 89 per cent of his attempted passes and won 75 per cent of his duels. (Wyscout)

He has less than four months left on his contract at the Emirates, having put pen to paper on a 12-month extension last June.

When asked by Football Insider if Luiz has played his way into a new deal, Campbell said: “I thought Luiz was superb against Spurs.

“The partnership between him and Gabriel looked really formidable.

“Normally you say David Luiz has got a mistake in him but he did not put a foot wrong at the weekend.

“I thought he was very strong and he joined in with the play as well. He used the ball well and carried the ball forward when the opportunity presented itself. I was over the moon with his performance.

“He is a leader and we needs leaders. I expect the club to reward him with a contract and keep him there for next season.”
