Arsenal tipped to sign 'brilliant' Tielemans as manager stance revealed - pundit

Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans is a “fantastic player” and “wouldn’t look out of place at Arsenal”, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 24-year-old would “fit straight in” at the Gunners under Mikel Arteta.

As quoted by the Sun (16 January), Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted the Foxes are “planning for life without Tielemans” as he approaches 18 months left on his contract.

The report claims Arsenal have already held talks with the Belgian international’s representatives.

Whelan insisted the Londoners won’t be the only side in for Tielemans, who he claims is yet to enter the “best years of his career”.

“He could play for any club in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s a quality player, and he’s shown that with his brilliant form over two or three seasons with Leicester.

“He’s so valuable for them in the midfield. He comes up with some fantastic goals, he works really hard, he’s got an eye for a pass.

“He’s also at a really good age, as well. He is only just approaching the best years of his career.

“I very much doubt that it will only be Arsenal in for him. But at the same time, he would fit straight into that style of play under Mikel Arteta.

“He certainly wouldn’t look out of place at a club like Arsenal – he’s a fantastic player and I can definitely see that happening.”

Arsenal are currently experiencing a midfield crisis, with Granit Xhaka (suspension), Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny (international duty) all currently unavailable.

The Gunners are just two points adrift of fourth-place West Ham with two games in hand.
