Arsenal have new Myles Lewis-Skelly plan - 'Mikel Arteta has told him'

Arsenal have no plans to sell Myles Lewis-Skelly in the summer transfer window despite ongoing links with multiple rival clubs.

Chelsea and Man United are both believed to be keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old in case he becomes available, but will both be left disappointed by the Gunners' decision.

Despite a lack of playing time for the majority of last season, the England international worked his way back into Mikel Arteta's plans, and even started the Champions League final.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that there is no way Arsenal will let Lewis-Skelly move on, as Arteta has already told him he is a key part of his plans.

Questions had previously been asked about the teenager's place at the Emirates after a lack of regular game-time for Arsenal saw him drop out of Thomas Tuchel's England plans.

However, after moving from his previous left-back position into the centre of midfield, he found his role in Arteta's plans and now looks set to establish himself there.

What are Arsenal's plans for Myles Lewis-Skelly?

Football Insider revealed on 5 August that Arsenal have no intention of cashing in on Lewis-Skelly, and he is set to play an important role for the Gunners this season.

That is despite Arsenal closing in on a deal to sign Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes, which will lead to more competition for places in the centre of midfield.

Regardless of any new arrivals, though, Lewis-Skelly proved his worth in the latter stages of last season, and is now expected to remain at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.

"I can't see any way Arsenal would be willing to let Lewis-Skelly go," Brown told Football Insider.

"At one stage last season it might've been realistic, because he suddenly dropped out of the side and it looked like there was no way back because he wasn't playing.

"That led to some questions about his attitude and why Arteta had decided to leave him out, but then he came back into the side towards the end of the season.

"I think Arteta has told him what he expects of him, and that there is a role for him in the side, because he even started the Champions League final.

"That's a pretty clear indicator of how the club feel about him, his ability, and his future there, so I don't believe now that there are any doubts about his future."

Which clubs are interested in signing Lewis-Skelly?

Lewis-Skelly's lack of game time for the majority of last season had led to question marks about his future at Arsenal and placed a number of clubs on high alert.

Chelsea are among the clubs to have considered a permanent move, while the likes of Everton and Leeds were linked with loan moves for the teenager in January.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in March that Man United were keeping a close eye on Lewis-Skelly's situation in case Arsenal decided to make him available.

The Red Devils have continued to be linked with his signature in recent weeks, but with Arsenal planning to keep him around, it will be difficult to get a deal over the line.

The Gunners have high hopes for Lewis-Skelly, and even during his absence from the side they were reluctant to let him go, with those plans now firmly in place.
