Crysencio Summerville has sent a message of support to Jurrien Timber after it was confirmed that the defender will miss the World Cup.

The Arsenal man has been recovering from a groin injury since mid-March, but was expected to play a part after making his return off the bench in the Champions League final.

On Monday, however, the Netherlands announced that Timber has been unable to recover fully to play a part in this summer's tournament.

A key part of Ronald Koeman's side, a solution will need to be found the the absence, with Lutsharel Geertruida called up.

Summerville was a surprise entry in the World Cup squad, with his senior debut only coming at the start of the month.

What lies ahead for Summerville after this summer remains almost entirely unclear.

The winger enjoyed a fine season, despite his team's relegation, and is expected to be the subject of significant interest.

West Ham transfer chiefs will be well aware of the potential effect of a strong World Cup, too, which could place Summerville on the main stage.

The Hammers spent in excess of £25million to sign the forward from Leeds United in 2024, and they will expect to make more than that back.

Summerville is under contract at the London Stadium for another three years, with there being an option for an additional year.

He will hope that there is some acceptance at West Ham that this summer could represent the best opportunity to attract a sizable fee for the winger.

The World Cup will be his chance to attract the right move, in that respect. For Timber, it will be a tournament watched from home in vain, after injury ruled him out.

"While this isn’t the path I had hoped for, I trust that God has a plan greater than the one I can see right now," he wrote to Instagram on Tuesday.

"John 13:7," commented Summerville, a passage from the Bible that reads: 'Jesus replied, 'You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."'

Edson Alvarez responds to Timber

Edson Alvarez is another West Ham footballer with an uncertain future this summer.

The midfielder spent the season on loan at Fenerbahce, who decided against triggering the option to buy in the deal after he was hit by injuries.

The 28-year-old played with Timber at Ajax and commented with a heart and praying hands emojis following the defender's post.

Alvarez will go to the World Cup with Mexico this summer in the hopes of gaining some clarity over his future upon his return.
