'Look at the players Arsenal are talking to' - Finance guru impressed by club's transfer plans
Arsenal have opened talks to sign three very expensive Premier League stars as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his squad.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Gunners may have to spend upwards of £100million on a single player this summer.
Arteta's side finally broke their Premier League hoodoo to beat Manchester City to the title in 2025-26, all while reaching the Champions League final.
And despite an incredible defence in North London, some supporters remained critical of the team's forward line right until the last game of the season.
In the Premier League, only Viktor Gyokeres registered double-digit goals, seeing them become the lowest scoring Champions since Leicester City won the league in 2015-16.
The Gunners clearly want to improve again, with early moves for Morgan Rogers, Sandro Tonali, and potentially, Julian Alvarez, but all of these transfers would come at eye-watering costs.
Arsenal must splash the cash to improve this summer
Borson has described Arsenal's transfer tactics as "ambitious," but admitted that the only way this squad is going to be improved is by splashing the cash this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he said: "Arsenal have clearly got some ambitious plans. Just look at the players that they're talking to.
"They're definitely talking to [Morgan] Rogers, [Bruno] Guimaraes and [Sandro] Tonali. These are good players. [Julian] Alvarez, I'm sure they'd want.
"So they recognise that they may as well be buying £100m-plus players if they're going to buy anybody to improve on the squad.
"They recognize the squad's already excellent, and it's got to take a certain level of player to get to that point."
How much might Mikel Arteta need to spend?
It remains to be seen how many of these transfers Arteta can get over the line, especially after a lot of spending during the summer of 2025.
However, should the Gunners be able to sign all four of the previous names, hypothetically, it could cost upwards of £400million.
Of course, that figure is just ridiculous, and not at all realistic, but signing Rogers and Tonali, for example, would make a great addition to the squad.
Reports would suggest that Aston Villa's playmaker is available for £100m, while the Newcastle United star is slightly less in today's market.
This would, undoubtedly, raise some question marks over the likes of Martin Odegaard and Martin Zubimendi and their futures at the club, but that's just part of football.
