Myles Lewis-Skelly 'evidence' shows where he will be playing after Man United and Chelsea 'offers'

Mikel Arteta sees Myles Lewis-Skelly as an important part of his plans for the season despite links with a move away from Arsenal.

The 19-year-old's future is in some doubt, with reports claiming he has been offered to both Man United and Chelsea in recent weeks.

However, he started and provided an assist in the Gunners' 3-0 win against Man City in the Community Shield in a display that suggests he won't be going anywhere.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Arteta is reluctant to lose any of his key players and believes Lewis-Skelly has an important role to play.

Speculation about the England international's future has ramped up following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes, but his place in the side is not currently at risk.

Having started the Champions League final and the first competitive game of the new season, Arteta has made a clear display to Lewis-Skelly about how he ranks in his long-term plans.

What is the latest on 's Arsenal future?

Brown told Football Insider on 7 August that Arsenal have no plans to sell Lewis-Skelly despite ongoing reports about his future and concerns about how last season panned out.

Regardless of any new arrivals, Lewis-Skelly proved his worth in the latter stages of last season, and is now expected to remain at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.

His performance in the Gunners' opening game of the new season was a show of his talent, but also a show of faith from Arteta to select him.

"The Myles Lewis-Skelly rumours have always been strange to me," Brown told Football Insider.

"He keeps being spoken about with regard to a move away from Arsenal, but the evidence on the pitch is showing that he is still a big part of the plans there.

"Arteta has shown him that he is part of the plans, because he's started the Champions League final and now the Community Shield as well.

"These are big games for Arsenal, and Lewis-Skelly is being chosen to start them, so it's clear from Arteta's side that he sees him as an important part of his plans.

"From the player's side, he will be able to see that he's getting regular minutes and he's part of the plans, so it's not as if he's being pushed out.

"That's why the speculation is confusing, because where is it coming from, when the club, the manager, and the player all seem to be focused on the same outcome with him as part of the side?"

Could Man United make a move for Lewis-Skelly?

Much of the speculation surrounding Lewis-Skelly's future at Arsenal comes after the midfielder was reportedly offered to both Chelsea and Man United in recent weeks.

Both clubs have previously shown an interest in signing him, but whether they are prepared to proceed in the closing stages of the window currently seems unlikely.

Football Insider reported on 12 August that Man United are currently the favourites to sign Lewis-Skelly before the end of the summer transfer window.

Michael Carrick is aiming to add a new left-back and central midfielder to his squad, and the England international's ability to play both positions would be a significant asset.

However, they are unlikely to make a move as things stand, with Arsenal also reluctant to see him move on, and their stance could make any move difficult.
