Stefan Borson: How much Mikel Arteta is likely to earn from new Arsenal contract

Mikel Arteta is likely to already be earning upwards of £10million ahead of putting pen to paper on a new deal at Arsenal.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that handing the Spaniard a new contract is a "no-brainer".

Currently the 44-year-old's contract is set to expire next summer, but the Gunners are confident of a new deal being struck at the Emirates soon.

It is believed that the manager's contract could be announced as early as the September international break, extending his seven-year stay in North London.

With Pep Guardiola no longer in charge in the Premier League, Arteta is believed to be one of the highest-paid in the division, and that could soon stretch across Europe.

Although Arsenal have only won two trophies, excluding the Community Shield, Borson believes that the money is still very much worth it.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has explained that the search for a brand-new manager would be far too risky, and that Arteta simply is worth the money.

"It's definitely worth it, because the cost of change of a manager is huge, first of all," he said.

"Secondly, it's incredibly risky [to change managers], and the incremental amount that they're paying him above the second-or-third-place manager is probably not that significant.

"Then thirdly, compared to the players, it's not significant at all. Get the violins out for managers because I'm sure he's paid £10m-a-year-plus, maybe more with bonuses.

"So he's very, very well paid. But it's a no-brainer. He's clearly the best manager of the ones that we've got in the Premier League right now.

"Some of them lower down may merge over time, but clearly, right now, he's number one."

How long is the Arsenal boss' new contract expected to be?

Arteta has already been the Gunners' boss for seven years, and he could be ready to commit another seven years to his time in North London.

That is what Keith Wyness has told Football Insider, who expects the Spaniard to sign a contract until the summer of 2033.

Arteta still has plenty of achieve, such as lifting the Champions League title, having narrowly missed out after losing the final to PSG last term.

Arsenal fans have become accustomed to keeping one manager for a long time, and Arsene Wenger accomplished a lot during his time at the club.
