Arsenal are edging closer to securing a deal for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraessources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners are speaking to the 28-year-old midfielder and his camp every day to try and get the signing finalised despite the Magpies’ reluctance to sell him.

Football Insider has revealed that Arsenal are now “confident” of signing Guimaraes before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

Progress has now been made behind the scenes, and a formal £70million bid is imminent from the Premier League champions.

Guimaraes is keen on a move to the Emirates and has already asked to leave St James’ Park this summer.

The midfielder has been a crucial player at Newcastle for years and made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, where he scored nine times and picked up eight assists.

Is Bruno Guimaraes worth the transfer saga?

Guimaraes to Arsenal talk has dominated the transfer window in recent weeks.

Mikel Arteta is obviously keen to bring the Brazil international in, despite how long the saga has been dragged out.

However, if Arsenal are able to finalise the deal, the stats indicate that he could be a revolutionary signing at the Emirates.

According to Fotmob on 25 July, the 28-year-old averaged 0.33 goals, a 0.21 xG, 1.54 shots, 0.84 shots on target, 0.18 assists, a 0.18 xA, 1.65 chances created and 6.16 duels won per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season.

Therefore, if Arsenal can add a player of this quality to their squad, it would no doubt boost their chance of retaining the Premier League title in the 2026-27 campaign.

Who else are Arsenal looking to sign?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Arsenal are ready to offer Atletico Madrid Viktor Gyokeres in part exchange for Julian Alvarez.

The Gunners are looking to secure a cash-plus-player deal for the Argentina international in order to improve their frontline.

Alvarez has scored 49 goals and registered 17 assists in 106 appearances since arriving at the Spanish club, and has been heavily linked to numerous clubs this summer, including Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid have made it clear that they do not want to sell the 26-year-old this summer.

However, it remains to be seen if a deal including Gyokeres will tempt them to part with the Argentine striker.
