Wenger: Arsenal are in talks with attacking midfield duo

By Amir Mir

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal are “in negotiations” with first team duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Forward Sanchez and playmaker Ozil are key to the success of the north London club, but both have yet to put pen to paper on new deals at the Emirates.

Chilean international Sanchez hit a stunning hat-trick at the weekend, when he helped the Gunners record an impressive 5-1 win against West Ham at the London Stadium.

The 27-year-old’s contract runs out in 2018, the same time as German international and World Cup winner Ozil.

Ahead of their Champions League game against Basel on Tuesday night, Wenger issued this update on the duo’s future.

“I would like to say the luxury in the modern game should be it is not only about the money,” said Wenger, as quoted by the Mirror. “The players make good money anyway. You negotiate more with the agents than the player so we are in negotiations, of course it is normal.”

The Gunners have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, but they can claim top spot in Group A if PSG lose to Ludogorets and they register at least a point.

Two-time Copa America winner Sanchez has been key to that success, scoring two goals and providing four assists in five European games.

Additionally, Ozil has also been instrumental in the very same competition, scoring four goals and supplying two assists in the same number of games.

In the Premier League, Wenger’ side are one place below and three points off leaders Chelsea, with Sanchez netting 11 goals in 14 league games.

In other Arsenal news, these three will be key to the Gunners smashing Basel in their final Champions League group game.
