Kevin Campbell is adamant Nicolas Pepe is a major part of Mikel Arteta’s plans at Arsenal despite reports suggesting otherwise.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Gunners striker claimed the Spanish manager wants to work with the “very talented” 25-year-old.
The Daily Star claim club chiefs are convinced they made an error with the signing of Pepe and would consider a suitable cash-plus player transfer or loan with an obligation to buy.
The club-record £72million signing is currently suspended in the Premier League after he headbutted Leeds United’s Ezgjan Alioski at Elland Road just over a week ago.
Pepe has so far failed to live up to his price tag, his 56 appearances for the club yielding a total of 12 goals and 12 assists.
When asked by Football Insider if he thinks his former club made an error signing the French winger, Campbell said: “I do not think they made an error in his signing, not at all.
“Mikel Arteta wants to work with him. I think he has a big future at the club because he is a very talented player.
“He has done some things that were not quite right, one of them being the sending off at Leeds. He is suffering right now because he cannot help the team in the Premier League but he will come back better.
“With a bit of luck, everything will be fine when he does return.”
