Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin was “exposed” by Jack Grealish on Sunday night, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the Aston Villa captain had “the run of the Emirates” in a scathing review of Mikel Arteta’s side’s defending.
A brace from Ollie Watkins and an own goal from Bukayo Saka compounded the Gunners to their fourth defeat of the season last weekend.
Grealish, Ross Barkley and Matt Targett enjoyed particular success down the left-hand side for the visitors up against Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding.
All three of Villa’s goals were created on that flank, a worrying sight for Mikel Arteta a week on from a huge win at Old Trafford.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Arsenal’s defending on Sunday, Campbell said: “Arteta was shocked by the performance and the way the team capitulated.
“Bellerin is not a good defender and he got exposed against Jack Grealish.
“Grealish had the run of the Emirates down that left hand side. You have to be able to defend against your winger one-on-one.
“Just getting back into your shape is not enough against ball players like Grealish. Ball players will play it around you and expose you and that is what Grealish and Barkley did. You have to affect the ball.
“Bellerin did not get much help though. You were hoping Rob Holding could but he is still coming back from injury. Ollie Watkins showed that Holding was still rusty.”
