Aston Villa among three Premier League clubs who should move for Curtis Jones as Liverpool ready summer sale

Aston Villa are one of several Premier League clubs who could have their eye on midfielder Curtis Jones ahead of his likely exit from Liverpool this summer.

The 25-year-old is understood to be “first in the queue” alongside Alexis Mac Allister to be shown the door at Anfield this summer, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon account.

The Englishman is expected to try and move to secure more regular gametime, with the Reds also keen to raise funds to spend elsewhere in the squad.

Tottenham and Aston Villa have both been credited with an interest in the Liverpool academy graduate, but with Spurs’ relegation fears growing by the week, there are surely several other clubs who will fancy their chances of a deal.

A sale of Jones is a clear part of Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer, and with that in mind, Football Insider explores three Premier League clubs who could be ready to take him off their hands.

Aston Villa

The Villans have already been credited as “admirers” of Jones, and they will likely be keen to try and add further European experience if they secure Champions League football for next term.

The Liverpool man has had a taste of Champions League football on a regular basis in the last few seasons, while his early development at Anfield means that he has experience beyond his years.

Unai Emery has regularly operated with two holding midfielders at the base of a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, but with Youri Tielemans and Boubacar Kamara both subject to consistent injury issues, reinforcements could be on the cards in that area.

Jones is capable of playing in a deep-lying midfield role or further up in an attacking midfield position, while he has also filled in at right-back on a regular basis this term.

Villa’s financial situation is set to see them target cost-effective additions to their squad once again this summer, and with Liverpool potentially ready to say goodbye to Jones, it may not take much for a deal to be struck.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson appears increasingly unlikely to still be at the City Ground next season, with Manchester City pushing to secure a deal for the England international.

Pep Guardiola’s side have emerged at the front of a whole host of elite clubs that are trying to sign the 23-year-old, with Forest highly likely to lose him ahead of next season.

Anderson’s departure would leave a hole for the East Midlands outfit in the centre of their midfield, and Jones could be a possible candidate to fill that for them this summer.

Forest have shown a keen interest to try and attract young English stars through their deals for the likes of James McAtee and Omari Hutchinson last summer, and they could target Jones as part of that effort.

The Liverpudlian is ready to take on further responsibility as a starter for a Premier League club, and Anderson’s exit could potentially set the cogs in motion for Forest to target him.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace are another club who are likely to be in the market for a new central midfielder this season, with Daichi Kamada and Jefferson Lerma both out of contract this summer.

Adam Wharton is still subject to strong interest from the Premier League’s elite, meaning it is entirely possible that the Eagles could head into next term with just Will Hughes, Borna Sosa and the injured Cheick Doucoure as their options in the middle of the park.

With that in mind, they will surely be looking to add at least one new face to their midfield group, and the way that they have developed players in recent years could potentially entice Jones.

Throw in the fact that the South Londoners could have Europa League football on the table next term, and they remain an attractive proposition for any potential incomings.

Jones may ideally prefer a move to a club with more stature at the top of the English game, but a spell at Selhurst Park could provide him with a springboard to return to a traditional ‘top six’ club later down the line.
