Aston Villa and Newcastle fans react on Twitter as Lescott reportedly offered contract

By Amir Mir

Joleon Lescott has been offered a short-term deal by Sunderland – and Aston Villa and Newcastle fans cannot believe his luck.

The Mirror claimed on Monday evening that Black Cats manager David Moyes wants to bring the 34-year-old into his squad after he recently trained with the side.

It is said Holland left-back Patrick van Aanholt will be sold to Crystal Palace for £9million and Lescott will provide cover for the defender.

Centre-back Lescott recently left Greek side, AEK Athens, three months after being sold from Midlands giants Villa.

The former England international endured a nightmare spell with the club, playing a huge part in their relegation into the second tier as fans were highly critical of his performances.

Now, Villa supporters believe Sunderland and Moyes are now Championship bound with the soon to be signing of their former player.

Additionally, the fans of the Black Cats’ north-east rivals, Newcastle believe Lescott finished as a player two years ago.

Moyes’ side currently sit bottom of the Premier League table, three points off safety with 22 league games played, as they are staring relegation in the face.

One Villa fan wished the struggling north east club good luck as they are set to add the experienced campaigner to their ranks.

Overall, both Villa and Newcastle fans were laughing at the possibility of former Everton man, Moyes re-joining partnerships with Lescott.
