Barnsley defender James Bree has rejected the opportunity of a glamorous Premier League transfer to push through a move to Aston Villa, according to a report.
The Mirror claim in their transfer blog on Monday evening (6.32 pm) that the right-back was being watched by five Premier League clubs, Arsenal, namely both Manchester clubs, Southampton and West Ham.
It is said that the Championship ace, who has agreed a £3million deal with Villa, was keen on the move to the Midlands because it gives him the opportunity to play regular football.
The news will delight Villa fans as one of their transfer targets has seemingly opted to join them in the Championship rather than move to the riches of the Premier League.
The 19-year-old has been one of the standout performers for Barnsley this season and recently featured in their 3-2 win against Leeds on Saturday.
Football Insider verdict:
Bree has made the right decision in moving to Aston Villa rather than a Premier League club where he will most likely see his game time reduced. The 19-year-old has shown huge progression in the Championship for the Tykes this season which has seen him win many plaudits. Bree needs to continue that development in a crucial stage during his career rather than sit on the bench with a big money contract in the Premier League. This way, regardless of Villa’s status next season, he will be first-choice for manager Steve Bruce in their push for promotion this term.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, this senior player wants to reportedly quit by next week.
