Aston Villa backed to sign top-class striker as 'crucial' deal agreed - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Aston Villa to sign another left-back and a striker before the end of the transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after the “crucial” signing of Robin Olsen.

The club confirmed last week (4 June) that the goalkeeper had completed a permanent move to Villa Park after spending the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan from Roma.

He is Villa’s fourth permanent signing of the summer already along with Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos.

“Sorting the goalkeeper out was crucial,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Martinez does travel a lot with Argentina, he says he suffered with jet lag this season (2021-22) and if your first-choice gets injured you want a second-choice who’s good enough, not one that you don’t trust.

“I thought Olsen was very good against Man City. He was probably a bit nervous with his kicking but I’m sure that will come and it’s something Villa will be working on.

“Kamara, a defensive midfielder, is something Aston Villa have been looking for. Maybe players they were looking to sign, the likes of Bissouma and Kalvin Phillips, were too expensive. To pick Kamara up on a free transfer is a no-brainer.

“At centre-half, they’ve got an experienced option. Steven Gerrard will want experience. He will know that you can have some young players but you need the majority to be experienced players you can trust. I’m sure he’ll fit in nicely next to Tyrone Mings.

“Coutinho is a perfect signing so he’ll be happy with the business that he’s done.

“He’ll still be looking at getting another left-back in or can he get another striker in? I’m sure he’ll be looking at a couple of players at least.”

In other news, there has been a ‘huge’ update on an Aston Villa bid to sign a Liverpool star.
