Aston Villa can land themselves a real bargain, and claim one of the deals of the summer, by making a move for Tom Rogic from Scottish champions Celtic.
The Australia international is heading to the World Cup finals with his country this summer and he’s had a storming season north of the border.
His contract is due to expire in 2019 and he’s stalling over a new contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side after rejecting an offer last month.
The Daily Record claim the Australian attacking midfielder, 25, is still in talks with Celtic but they have no idea whether he will sign again.
That leaves the door open for Aston Villa to steal in and seal a deal for the player who’s scored seven goals in 31 games for his country.
He has struggled with injuries this season but Celtic hold him in high regard and their fans are desperate for him to sign another deal.
He’s scored 27 goals and supplied 22 assists in 123 appearances for Celtic, but he looks like he’s hoping the World Cup finals could be a springboard to a bigger club.
Steve Bruce could convince him that the move he’s looking for is to the Midlands giants, who are still hopeful of securing promotion this season.
It looks like they’ll have to do it the hard way, with an automatic promotion spot looking out of reach now as the clubs begin the run-in to the end of the season.
Villa are currently seven points behind Cardiff in second place and they’ve played a game more.
If they don’t get up this season they’d be one of the pre-season favourites to grab an automatic promotion place next season, and Rogic could be the man who could fire them back to the big time.
Australian outlet The World Game recently reported that Rogic is valued at £3.4million.
