Aston Villa have confirmed that two of their long-term injured players returned to action this week.

Winger Andre Green and striker Jonathan Kodjia both played 45 minutes in the friendly game at Bodymoor Heath.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw against Peterborough and fans will be delighted to hear that both players took another successful step towards a first-team return.

Green has been out since September with a hamstring injury and Kodjia hasn't played in the Championship since November after ankle surgery.

The news that both successfully came through 45 minutes at Bodymoor was posted on the official Aston Villa Twitter page on Wednesday morning.

Football Insider verdict:

This is great news for Aston Villa although there's no word yet on when they might make their first-team returns. However, playing 45 minutes means that might be sooner than expected. In their absence, Steve Bruce's men have done well but recent results mean that an automatic promotion place might be too much to hope for. Villa are now in fourth place in the league, seven points behind Cardiff City in second.
