Kieran Maguire hails 'superb' Purslow after Aston Villa showdown with 'big six' clubs
Aston Villa chief Christian Purslow has been a phenomenal voice for the “other 14” clubs in the aftermath of April’s Super League plot.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Premier League shareholders meeting on 22 September.
The Sun reported the previous day that concerns over a proposed ‘owners charter’ were set to take centre stage at the conference.
It is claimed that some clubs have described the plans, formulated in response to the botched Super League plot, as “toothless”.
The charter is supposed to protect the current structure of the English game and mandate sanctions for future breakaway conspiracies.
But dignitaries of some clubs are reportedly furious that no exact punishments have been defined.

And Maguire suggests that Christian Purslow will be among those to have voiced their frustrations at Wednesday’s meeting.
“He won’t be happy with the proposals,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Christian Purslow has been superb at representing the ‘other 14 clubs’ and their ambitions.
“They want some form of competitive balance in the Premier League. Purslow is defending the rights of club owners such as Edens and Sawiris.
“They have invested money in Villa on the basis of having a competitive club in a competitive competition.
“The proposals of Super League would have obliterated that.
“There is a self-interest element, but there is also the fact that football in this country is represented by more than those six clubs.
“I think he has spoken for the rest of the clubs very well.”
