Aston Villa close to major coup as talks advanced for ex Manchester United ace - report

Aston Villa are close to completing the signing of Hellas Verona goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

The 21-year-old looks set for a return to England in the Championship following talks between Villa and the Italian club.

Italian publication Sky Italia cited by Inside Futbol have suggested that Aston Villa are finalising the last details of the transfer.

The fee is reported to be £4.3millon and the player is expected to travel to England to complete the move soon.

Gollini is a former Manchester United academy player and has represented his national side Italy at youth levels from Under-18s up to the Under-21.

The goalkeeper joined Hellas Verona at the beginning of the 2014-15 season and is contracted with the Italians until 2019.

He featured heavily during last campaign making 27 appearances in all competitions an Villa have set their sights on the youngster relegation to the Championship.

Newly appointed boss Roberto Di Matteo has already bolstered his defence this transfer window with the capture of Tommy Elphick, the former Bournemouth captain joined for a fee of £3million.

The addition of Gollini would provide competition for the squads current goalkeepers Brad Guzan, Mark Bunn, Jed Steer and Bradley Watkins.
