By Will Butcher

Ravel Morrison has dropped a transfer hint by following Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on Twitter.

Lazio’s controversial attacking midfielder Ravel Morrison suggested he could be set for a return to England.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined Lazio from Manchester United but has failed to settle in Italy, making just six appearances in all competitions last season.

The possibility of Morrison moving to Villa Park was aired last month when he started following the club’s official Twitter account and it has now gathered further momentum by his interest in new signing Gollini.

The former Verona shot-stopper will know Morrison from their days in the Old Trafford youth set-up.

Morrison, who is contracted to Serie A club Lazio until the summer of 2019, began following the Villa Twitter account at the end of July.

The playmaker was once regarded as one of the most gifted young footballers in the country, but reported attitude problems has seen the 23-year-old’s career take a number of setbacks.

Morrison has only made 70 senior appearances since graduating from the Manchester United academy in 2010.

Intriguingly, new Villa owner Tony Xia also tweeted on Tuesday morning, claiming that the club were close to confirming a new midfielder.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, this defender is undergoing a medical after settling terms on with the Midlands side.
