Alan Hutton insists that Aston Villa star Jack Grealish is “worth every penny” of the “massive” price tag said to be on his head.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villan claims that the 24-year-old would develop into an “outstanding” player at a top-four side after his impressive performances this season.
The Mirror report that Aston Villa will stick to their guns and demand £80million for their midfield talisman regardless of whether the club remain in the Premier League or not.
Hutton, who played alongside Grealish during his time at Villa, insists that the playmaker is worth the hefty price tag and admits he deserves to be strutting his stuff at the top end of the Premier League.
Hutton told Football Insider: “Obviously it’s a massive price tag but in my opinion, he’s worth every penny, he’s that good.
“He could be a team’s game-changer and that’s no disrespect to anyone at Aston Villa, you know I love them to bits, but for him to be playing with a top-four team I think he’d be outstanding.
“Everybody would be buzzing off him, they would see his quality and I think he would only grow in stature so I totally understand the price tag. Whether what’s happened is going to affect it, I’m not too sure because it’s going to happen to every club.”
Grealish has been the standout performer for Villa this season with seven goals and six assists in his 26 Premier League appearances.
A boyhood Villan, he has a total of 177 games under his belt for the club, with 60 of those coming in the Premier League.
In other Aston Villa news, a member of Dean Smith’s squad has been tipped to join the club’s Midlands rivals this summer.
