Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Johnstone display v Tottenham

Aston Villa fans reacted with excitement on Twitter after being impressed by Sam Johnstone’s display during the 2-0 defeat against Tottenham on Sunday evening.

The January loan signing made a big impression on the Villa fans when he started his first game for the club in the FA Cup third round tie.

Johnstone has joined Villa on loan until the end of the season from Manchester United and fans hope he will make a difference to their Championship play-off hopes.

The young keeper has impressed staff at Manchester United’s academy and Jose Mourinho was keen for Johnstone to gain regular first-team action.

Based on his performance on Sunday, Villa fans hope to see more of him and Johnstone is now expected to replace Mark Bunn as the number one for the Championship outfit.

The 23-year-old is yet to make an appearance for United and he has spent the last five seasons on loan with a number of clubs in League One and League Two.

He is a confident keeper and fans were impressed by his inch-perfect kicking and composure within the six yard box during set-pieces.

Johnstone is also known for his leadership skills and he showed he is willing to command his defence against Tottenham despite it being his first start for Villa.

He is expected to feature heavily under Steve Bruce and his first performance has certainly set high standards.
