Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Christian Benteke transfer speculation

By Amir Mir

Christian Benteke could be sold by Crystal Palace during the January transfer window – and Aston Villa fans on Twitter have urged the club to buy their former striker.

The Mirror claim that the Eagles club-record £30million summer signing could be sold after just five months as recently-appointed manager Sam Allardyce aims to raise transfer funds.

Belgium international Benteke joined the London club in August when he made a summer transfer from Merseyside outfit Liverpool.

Villa fans on Twitter have said that they would welcome Benteke back to the club.

The 26-year-old left the Midlands side to join the Reds during the summer of 2015 while they were still a Premier League outfit.

But now Steve Bruce’s side are struggling in mid-table in the second tier where they are aiming to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Fans have urged owner Tony Xia to bring Benteke home but others provided a more realistic outlook, stating they would never be able to afford him.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Despite the struggles of Palace this season, which resulted in the sacking of Alan Pardew in December, Benteke has still produced the goods in front of goal.

He has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 18 Premier League game this term.

During his time at Villa Park, he played 101 games in all competitions, scoring 49 goals and supplying 12 assists.
