Aston Villa U23 striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy scored a brace in the Premier League Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough on Monday night in a 2-1 win.

The Villans’ youth team found Boro hard to break down and were behind for much of the game until the 19-year-old hitman struck with a late double to hand the Lions victory.

As a result, fans of the Claret and Blues were all saying the same thing about the youngster – they want to see him in the senior setup.

The rapid striker has been scoring goals for fun lately.

Indeed, in the U23s league, he has notched up even goals in his six starts for the youngsters.

You’d have to say there is no reason to not give Hepburn-Murphy an opportunity to test his abilities against the Championship’s defenders.

With Villa’s status in the play offs all but mathematically confirmed – and no one player who is making the striking role theirs – Steve Bruce has nothing to lose by handing the youngster a more prominent role.

And judging by the reactions of Villans fans, it’s unlikely that Bruce would face a backlash if it didn’t work out, as supporters are keen to see the 19-year-old strut his stuff.

Here is what the Villa faithful had to say about the youngster after his latest goal for the U23s:
