Aston Villa are finalising their move for Bury defender Jacob Bedeau, according to a report.
The Mail claim on their transfer news column (Monday 1:28pm) that the Midlands giants are finalising the £1million move for the 17-year-old.
The report details that Liverpool, Manchester United and City had also checked on the highly-rated youngster, but Villa appear to be in pole position for his signature.
Bedeau is enjoying a meteoric rise this season and only made his senior debut in November against Millwall.
The centre-back was released by Leyton Orient in the summer, but has gone on to be a leading player for the Lions.
He has made seven appearances this season, but has been left out of recent matches amid interest from other clubs.
Steve Bruce has already been extremely busy in January and has purchased Sam Johnstone, Henri Lansbury, James Bree, Birkir Bjarnason and Conor Hourihane.
Football Insider verdict:
Villa have already signed several experienced players in their squad, but Bruce will still be keen to bring in young players through the squad. Bedeau is a highly rated player and his talent has been recognised by top sides in the Premier League. The centre-back has shown great character to break into the Bury starting line-up and has the potential to become a top player. He could benefit hugely by completing a move to Villa Park, working with experienced defenders and learning under manager Bruce. Bedeau is certainly not got to be the finished article yet, but it’s important to look to the future and the defender certainly appears to have.
