Aston Villa have sealed yet another midfield transfer - reliable journalist

By Amir Mir

Aston Villa have given the green light for Aaron Tshibola to move to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, according to a reliable journalist.

Telegraph reporter John Percy has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the transfer for the 22-year-old midfielder to Forest is “done”.

Percy, who is the newspaper’s Midlands correspondent, did not reveal whether it is a permanent deal or not but it is unlikely to be as Tshibola is expected to join on loan for the rest of the season.

Steve Bruce has been very busy during the January transfer window adding five players to his squad and selling or loaning out three more players.

Tshibola’s move to the City ground will see Villa be involved in yet another midfield transfer following the arrivals of Henri Lansbury, Birkir Bjarnason and Conor Hourihane.

Furthermore, it will mean for the second time this month Villa have negotiated transfer business with their Midlands rivals Forest after they purchased their captain Lansbury.

Tshibola was signed by Bruce’s predecessor Roberto Di Matteo from Reading in the summer for fee of £5.5million, but since the arrival of the promotion expert in mid-October he has only featured three times.

Football Insider verdict:

Bruce has got it wrong in letting Tshibola leave the club. Yes, additions of three midfielders has made if difficult for the youngster to now secure a regular first team place, but there are others who should have left before him. One name that stands out is, Ashley Westwood, who has played double the matches and minutes to Tshibola, yet the summer signing has scored more goals than Westwood this term. It is baffling why managers continue to pursue with Westwood and allow young talents such as Tshibola leave the club. Nonetheless, he will now gain valuable experience at Forest where he can prove his worth to Bruce.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, this deal is all but done as the club have completed their sixth signing in January.
