Aston Villa have held talks about a potential January swoop for Liverpool fringe player Marko Grujic, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claimed in their live transfer blog on Monday [04:16PM] that Jurgen Klopp has decided to offer Grujic, 21, out on loan with the playmaker struggling to earn game time at Anfield this season.
It is understood that Brighton are also keen on the four-times Serbia international but Chris Hughton is believed to be more interesting in stepping up efforts to sign a striker in January.
The report adds that Galatasaray have been tracking Grujic’s situation at Anfield too, but Klopp would prefer to see the midfielder loaned out to a fellow English club, potentially leaving Aston Villa in pole position to land him.
Grujic has made just six appearances across all competitions for Liverpool this season, including two in the Champions League when he came off the bench in wins against Hoffenheim and Maribor.
Football Insider verdict
Villa really need a little bit of extra quality in their midfield and Grujic could really be the difference in Steve Bruce’s side. The Serbian playmaker can play anywhere from a deep to an advanced midfield role and as the season progress, that kind of versatility could be really helpful for the Villains. Bruce may not have much money to spend in January due to Financial Fair Play restrictions so looking for loan deals for players with the quality of Grujic should be the priority ahead of next month. With Klopp willing to offload the player, it seems like there’s a very good chance of this deal happening.
