Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia is a big doubt for Wednesday night’s fixture against Preston at Deepdale as he faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury, according to a report.
Sky Sports claims that Kodjia, 28, is likely to miss the Championship fixture having hobbled out of the action in the 0-0 draw with Birmingham on Sunday.
Kodjia has been a key player in Steve Bruce’s side this season and would no doubt be a major miss if he was forced to watch on from the sidelines at Preston.
The Ivory Coast international has made nine appearances across all competitions, starting regularly since returning from a long-term injury over the summer.
However he has only scored one goal since coming back into the first-team, which came against rock-bottom Bolton in late-September.
The ex-Bristol City forward was on fire for Aston Villa last term, scoring 19 goals in 40 Championship appearances.
Villa can be leapfrogged by Preston if they lose at Deepdale on Wednesday night as the West Midlands side currently side just two points ahead of Alex Neil’s side in sixth place.
Three points for the Villains could potentially see them move up to fourth, as long as results go their way in the midweek fixtures.
In other Aston Villa news, this Premier League enforcer has made an emphatic decision on his future after an approach from the Villains.
