Aston Villa news: McLeish issues bold Matty Cash verdict after confirmed news - 'exceptional'
Matty Cash could spend the rest of his career at Aston Villa after signing a bumper new five-year contract, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Villa boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old has been “exceptional” since arriving at the Midlands club in 2020.
As confirmed by Aston Villa on 4 April, Cash has signed a five-year contract extension at the club – keeping him at Villa Park until June 2027.
Football Insider first revealed on 21 March that Steven Gerrard’s side were preparing a contract offer in order to fend off interest from Atletico Madrid.
Cash, a newly-minted Poland international, has notched three goals and four assists in 32 games across all competitions this term.
McLeish suggested the former Notts Forest man has “pledged his long-term future” to Villa by signing a new deal.

“Matty has been a really consistent player for them,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“He ticks all the boxes, both attacking and defending. He’s a real threat going forward, as all modern full-backs are. Nowadays they have to be.
“But he’s also a very good defender. He has graced Villa Park exceptionally well since coming in.
“With these contracts now and the fees you have to pay to get around them, it certainly looks like he’s pledged his long-term future to Aston Villa – possibly even the rest of his career.”
Aston Villa sit 11th in the Premier League with eight games remaining.
Cash cost the Midlands side a reported £14millon plus add-ons in 2020.
